IHE Image-Sharing Demonstration at RSNA 2008

The RSNA annual meeting will once again offer a demonstration of the latest developments from IHE in electronic health records and standards-based interoperability. For the past decade, IHE has continually expanded the capabilities of systems that address the needs of radiologists and other physicians by providing access to information and supporting efficient clinical, educational and research applications.

The demonstration will be located in Hall A (South Building) Booth 2842 at McCormick Place in Chicago during the RSNA 2008 Scientifica Assembly and Annual Meeting, November 30 through December 4. It will offer three real-world clinical scenarios that demonstrate the benefits to patient care provided by efficient sharing of medical information. This demonstration will, for the first time, include an image-enabled personal health record (PHR) system.

IHE provides a whole array of profiles for improving the efficiency of radiology systems and information sharing within and across care settings. This year's demonstration will include sharing of images and reports using the following IHE profiles:

  • Cross-enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-I) for sharing images across a network of care sites to connect electronic health record (EHR) and personal health record (PHR) systems
  • Patient Identifier Cross-reference (PIX) and Patient Demographics Query (PDQ) to enable information on a given patient to be gathered even when a patient is known under different patient IDs at different institutions
  • Teaching File and Clinical Trial Export (TCE) for selecting DICOM images and related information and exporting them to teaching file authoring or clinical trials management systems

These profiles work with established profiles, such as Radiology Scheduled Workflow (SWF), which closes the information loop in the acquisition of digital images, to create a seamless electronic environment for sharing images and other kinds of medical records.

Participating companies are:

  • Acuo Technologies
  • Agfa HealthCare
  • DeJarnette Research Systems
  • GE Healthcare
  • Hx Technologies
  • Initiate Systems
  • Intel
